Reflections on Morphic Resonance
Part of the Rainbow Body series, this piece bridges inner healing with the Tibetan tradition of the Rainbow Body (Jalü), where deep spiritual transformation allows physical form to dissolve into pure, luminous light and universal energy.
Reflections on Morphic Resonance
Art often begins where words fall short, emerging from the quiet spaces of meditation, vision, and inner processing. This piece, Morphic Resonance, completed in May of 2024 as part of the Rainbow Body series, is deeply rooted in one such moment - a guided meditation focused on healing.
At the center of the composition is a suspended, faceless figure. This figure serves as a metaphor for the human condition as a whole, attempting to capture the deep tension between the helplessness we all inevitably experience in the face of tragedy and hardship, and the vital, pressing need to let that pain go.
Surrounding this figure are key symbolic elements:
The Gold Disc: Resting in the background, it represents source energy and divine wholeness.
The Dualistic Rainbow: Uniquely featuring white and black, the rainbow symbolizes an existence in a dualistic world where every "up" has a "down," and good as well as the absence of good co-exist.
Understanding Morphic Resonance
The title of the piece was inspired by biologist Rupert Sheldrake’s theory of morphic resonance. While it lives outside mainstream scientific consensus, Sheldrake's concept offers a compelling framework for looking at the world.
In brief, Sheldrake proposes that similar self-organizing systems - from crystals and plants to animal species and human societies - are shaped by non-physical scaffolding called morphic fields. Rather than being governed strictly by fixed, unyielding laws of nature, Sheldrake suggests that these fields rely on a form of collective memory. Through a process of non-local resonance across time and space, past forms and behaviors influence present ones. Essentially, nature operates partly out of "habit" - the more a pattern occurs or is experienced, the easier it is for others to tap into it.
Morphic Resonance as an Allegory
While I view the theory through an artistic lens rather than a strict scientific one, it deeply resonates as a spiritual and psychological allegory.
Just as morphic resonance suggests an invisible web connecting similar patterns across time, personal healing does not happen in a vacuum. When we process trauma, release stuck energy, or confront the dualities of life, we are tapping into a collective human stream. We are drawing from - and contributing to - a shared psychological library of endurance, survival, and transformation. The painting becomes a snapshot of that energetic tuning-in: a moment where an individual form connects with source energy, crystalline clarity, and the wider web of human experience.
